ANZSOG Institute for Governance University of Canberra

Mark Evans

As the first Director of the Institute, Mark Evans will provide leadership in developing and promoting both ANZSOG and the ANZSOG Institute for Governance education programs with an emphasis on applied learning approaches. Mark designed the University of York's highly successful MPA and associated professional training programmes as well as bespoke MPA programs for the South Korean and Chinese governments. He has played an international role in promoting good administrative practices in public administration in developed and developing contexts as well as the reconstruction of public administration in war-torn societies. This has been reflected in his research and training activities as well as practical engagement with various professional bodies. He has delivered professional development activities and managed evaluation projects for the World Bank, United Nations agencies and the European Union. His recent books include; Constitution-making and the Labour Party (2005) ; Post-war Reconstruction and Policy Transfer (2009); New Directions in the Study of Policy Transfer (2009) and Understanding Competition States (2009) and has been the editor of the international journal Policy Studies since 2005 .

Mark's international experience in managing and delivering research programmes, supporting and training senior civil servants and in evaluating public policy programmes will be deployed in his forthcoming work with ANZSOG. The emphasis of his work here will be fourfold: to provide the ACT with high quality bespoke training and research support; to develop professional training courses in public management and delivery; to initiate short courses in conflict transformation; and, in the medium-term, to explore the creation of an international MPA programme. Mark also hopes to contribute to two research projects on 'Governing under Pressure' and 'Understanding Public Value' which he believes will provide an essential research context to ANZSOG's executive education.
